Inward Quest tags probably cause the most confusion of all the features on the website, and yet they are also one of the most important features of the website. Tags allow people to easily find questions regarding a subject without needing to know any specifics about the subject. So, for example, clicking on a tag titled law-of-attraction will allow someone to browse information on the Law of Attraction without really knowing much about it, or allow someone to easily find other questions containing similar ideas. You can create links directly to particular tags, like I have done in the paragraph above for law-of-attraction. The format of those links is always like this: http://www.inwardquest.com/tags/law-of-attraction . Just replace law-of-attraction with the tag name. The IQ software also heavily relies on tags to automatically group and relate questions and make the entire site run more smoothly. Good tags make IQ more valuable for everyone. I've now added a bit of information to the Inward Quest FAQ to explain tags a bit better. I've copied that information below for you. If you are still confused about tags, post an answer below and I'll try to clarify further. Thanks, What are "tags"?Think of tags as containers for questions. A container is useful when it can hold multiple items. It is less useful when it only holds one item. Similarly, tags that have the potential to relate multiple questions together are useful e.g. spiritual-growth. Tags that only relate to one question, or are irrelevant to Inward Quest generally, are not useful e.g. my-cat-felix If you don't know what tags to use, you can look at an existing similar question and see what tags are being used for that. The number of questions a tag contains is shown to the side of every question.
When you ask a question, you have to provide at least one tag for that question. Tags allow us to categorize questions (and show related questions) without forcing the categories into a hierarchy. You can tag one question law-of-attraction and metaphysics, another question spirituality and mind-power, and a third question books and reviews Tags play an important role in discovering which questions are related to each other. When choosing tags for your questions, please consider using already-existing tags rather than creating new ones unnecessarily. This will help our website software to automatically group related questions together and make it easier for others to browse the site If you have enough karma points, you can help to make Inward Quest more useful for others by retagging questions that are using inappropriate ones asked 31 Mar '12, 06:14 Simon Templeton ♦♦ |
You should add in another thing - if there are already existing tags you have to choose them from the drop-down menu, otherwise it creates a completely new different tag with the same name! Like when you type m in the tag box, there be a drop down menu such as manifesting, meditating, etc if there are already existing such tags, and if you dont click on those but just type manifesting instead, it creates a completely new tag , so there would be 2 manifesting tags and 2 meditating tags.. answered 31 Mar '12, 23:32 kakaboo I can't see any such duplicate tags in the alphabetical tag list: http://www.inwardquest.com/tags/?sort=name&page=8 Can you show me somewhere where this has happened?

@Simon Templeton I did it once and Barry Allen told me not to do it again, I forgot which question was it - i suppose he should know about this. anyway this example should not be too difficult to replicate again if needed..

You must be referring to http://www.inwardquest.com/questions/43092 where you created a new tag called extra-terrestrials (with a hyphen) instead of using the existing extraterrestrials tag. It would be like creating a new tag called manifestation where there is already a manifesting tag. The IQ software is just lines of computer code, it can't speak English and doesn't know the words mean the same, it just sees a new word and creates a new tag, as it should.

There are a lot of times I compromise to use tags for example like I go to type Experience and the tag Life-Experience comes up. Okay it is not exactly what I wanted but it will do, I have done that many times rather than creating a new tag that is close to the one I just used in meaning. Other times I do just need to make a new tag or even use tags that hardly have been used because they are most fitting to the question. I do think this will help others maybe even new members for here, but you know I have been here since the start. Even still this is good and I enjoyed this post. answered 31 Mar '12, 23:33 Wade Casaldi |
I have the link to tags, http://www.inwardquest.com/tags/?sort=name&page=8 but in order to use it as I am framing a question, I have to leave the page with the question to find the index of tags. Then I may lose the question I have laboriously typed! Since using tags is a very important feature of IQ, is there a way we could more easily look up tags so that we might use existing tags more effectively? There is no "tags" option in the "Tags index." Guess I have created one. answered 10 Apr '12, 08:06 Dollar Bill 2
You don't need to leave the page you are on. You can simply open a new tab in your web browser pointing to Inward Quest and look up whatever information/tags you wish without losing your place. When you have finished you can return to your original browser tab and submit your question after adding the appropriate tags. You can have as many browser tabs open as you like onto Inward Quest through the same browser and none will interfere with each other. I often have more than 10 tabs open at once.

Yes I agree, I use that a lot when I want to link to another question or answer. I open a new Inward quest tab to find what I want and cut and paste it in my answer in the old tab.
