How do you define greed?

(04 Apr '11, 18:40) Fairy Princess

I mean, how does your mom sharing money make your sister very greedy? That is very subjective. Maybe if you define how it makes her greedy, that will help. Thanks

it is not sharing, my sis is a very selfish, only thinking of herself, always taking without giving/sharing.

the trick is moderation. if you want what you need, not being exesive! if you need to pay your bill and it is $150, do not ask or try to attract more. if you are not being selfish and you truly need things. then that is the diffrance than just beeing greedy, hope it helped! love n light, rob

According to the dictionary, Greed is defined as:

"GREED" --- Excessive desire to acquire or possess more (especially more material wealth) than one needs or deserves

I think that's probably close to the definition of greed that most people are carrying around in their heads.

I've highlighted in bold in that sentence what I think are the problem words for most people...greedy is how people label others who appear to have desires that are "excessive" or more than they "deserve".

But I think words like excessive and deserve don't highlight a problem with the person having those desires. Instead, they highlight a basic misunderstanding with the person who is judging another as greedy and undeserving.

If one believes that there is only a limited amount of stuff to go around in this physical reality then, naturally, conflicts and judgements are going to arise over who gets that stuff. So you get accusations of greed and selfishness from people who don't have what they perceive others as having unfairly.

If that is someone's world-view then they are probably forever going to be unhappy and miserable at all the apparent injustices regarding material wealth - especially these days, as our collective vibrations rise, and poor people seem to be getting poorer and wealthy people seem to be getting wealthier.

(In reality, it's just the same effect as a light getting brighter...the dark shadows seem to get darker as the light increases in intensity)

What the people who hold these judgements are missing is that all these labels are human-made.

If one accepts that physical reality is simply a precise reflection of the thoughts we think then are there really any greedy people? Or are there simply people who are holding predominant thoughts that serve them, and others who are holding predominant thoughts that don't serve them?

The paradigm of thought we currently call "The Law of Attraction" is simply a useful way of reminding ourselves that our thoughts create our physical realities and we receive whatever is in harmony with those thoughts through aligning with the flow of an underlying universal energy. We each have our own direct access to this energy - our emotions tell us how aligned or misaligned we are with this natural flow.

Labelling another as "greedy" is really saying that because I am not allowing that energy to flow in my own life in a way that serves me, then no-one else should.

Wouldn't it better instead to ride that same stream of abundance for yourself rather than worrying about what others are doing with it?

As the saying goes, it is better to light one candle than curse the darkness. Labelling others as "greedy" is darkness-cursing at its best :)

So now, based upon what I've said above - and assuming you've actually managed to read this far - we come to an interesting conclusion regarding greed.

If in being deliberately greedy (as others might call us), we are pulling more of this universal energy through us into this physical reality, are we not doing a service to this physical reality and the people around us? Are we not lighting more candles instead of darkness-cursing?

It is said that every multi-millionaire creates many millionaires in their wake as they reach their goal. The money did not fall out of the sky - it came as a result of those others being inspired to the levels that the multi-millionaire was demonstrating was possible.

So what I'm saying is that not only is greed not bad, it is most definitely good.

I think Mr Gordon Gekko (portrayed by Michael Douglas) in the movie Wall Street says it as well as has ever been said:

alt text

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.

Greed is right.

Greed works.

Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.

Gordon Gekko, from the movie "Wall Street" (1987)

I appreciate this may not be a popular point of view to hold, especially among those who have yet to experience consciously first-hand the natural abundance of the universe... but fortunately, or unfortunately - depending on your point of view, The Law of Attraction doesn't take much notice of opinion polls :)

Good answer.LOA/ Source wont rob anyone of anything. Talk about greed tends to take the viewpoint that this reality is one of shortage and lack.

greed is an appetite that feeds on you and vibrates from you.
as it is a rather coarse vibration
it detracts from the beauty of the world

Greed is perhaps a contentious word to use. If greed means that i want " MORE" than i need then im greedy and happy with this.

Were dealing ,whether we know it or not, every day of our lives with a power and intelligence which crosses dimensions amd can override the very laws of this universe and any other ones which may exist.

Source is without any thresholds, unlimited in resources and unlimited in willingness to pour wealth( and everything else ) into our lives.

No one on this earth will ever be able to imagine or want more than Source can provide. The word greed is without meaning to God. He cannot recognise this word because it implies wanting more than He can give or wanting more than you deserve. Both of which are an impossibility.

You cant be greedy, its impossible to be. Source is so giving and generous that you simply couldnt want more than God is willing to give. Also you fully deserve anything God can give because of who you are....one with Source.

Your wealth will eventually trickle down to others anyway,if you blow it on wine, women and song then many businesses and individuals will profit. If you hord it the banks will prosper. If you hord it and leave no will it will eventually go back to the state and benefit others. So one way or another your going to have to be unselfish with it even if its by default!

Any wealth you amass will stay in this reality, one way or another. You will eventually do good for others whether you like it or not.You may well purpose in your heart to give some of the wealth away before you leave it all behind.

I like what Esther says about this. Be a little greedy,be a little selfish, gain something so you have something to bless others with. Not an exact quote but near enough.
