How to Get Everything You Want By Saying The Word "Yes"

Here is a fun game I have played over the past couple of months and on and off at other times in my life. It is called the Yes Man Challenge, and it is identical to the name of the film Yes Man and the book as well. In the movie, the protagonist is disengaged from life and has his energy all trampled and stuck. When he attends a corny self-help seminar (his friend forces him to go), he makes an agreement with the Guru to say yes to any opportunity that presents itself.

..."You're dead Carl....You say no to life, and therefore you are not living. You're stuck in the same dead end job you have been for years. You don't have a girlfriend. You don't have anything close to a girlfriend. And you lost the love of your life, because she couldn't stand to be with someone who didn't live theirs..."

And the grand chance that changes the characters life forever is set by a challenge:

We're going to make a covenant Carl. Do you want to make a covenant? The answer is "yes." Once you leave this building....anytime life presents you an opportunity- no matter what it is-...you will say "yes."

Why does this method work?

  • in saying yes to something, no matter what, you are accepting it. And in this attitude of acceptance, you cancel out all resistance and negative energy
  • Life/ The universe knows what obstacles, challenges and fun opportunities to send you for your expansion. Why go against the current when you can embrace it and welcome it?
  • You are forced, yes forced, to expand your energy
  • It works because life is super easy and fun
  • It works because every "yes" is a decision you are making, and decisions = life
  • The universe will organise everything that needs to be organised in terms of time and event management. Excitement has its own built in organising factor. Do this challenge with excitement.

Tips and Guidelines

  • You need a positive attitude for this to work
  • Even if it something you don't want to do (seemingly), say yes to it anyways
  • Do not be scared of falling off the cliff. There is a soft landing anyways
  • You can either seek out opportunities, or you can sit on the couch and wait (this is what I do). Life will give you all the dishes you need
  • If you seemingly run out of resources or time to do the activity, do it anyways. You will be able to do what you need with what you have anyways.
  • Have zero expectations.
  • Take everything as far as you can. If you attend an event for example, and afterwards people at the event are staying for tea/dinner, then attend.
  • Do not worry or be concerned about negative things happening just because you are doing this activity. All of these negative events that may happen are just you're out-dated beliefs anyways so this method gives you a chance to clear them out
  • Be prepared for negative beliefs to pop up. Clear them when you get the chance.
  • Keep this game private. Do not tell anyone you are doing this challenge.
  • For beginners, set yourself a time-limit of one day or one week, and record your progress. Watch the cool things happen.

Enjoy and have fun. If you want to start a One Week Trial then record all the things you said "yes" to in your day/week and please share how many cool things happened.

Cool, but this is only for advanced individuals

@Marin- Indeed it can be. For beginners open minded and adventurous enough to try it, however, I am sure they will gain more out of it than us enlightened ultra spiritual folk.

When I participate in a new experiment like this, I generally define my parameters beforehand, and prefer to not mix paradigms. So if I were to take part in the "Yes Man" challenge, I'd first forget all about vortex, law of attraction, channeling, etc, and follow the "Yes Man" principle as if it's the only thing I know.

So, on that basis, what should I do if my finger gets burnt? Should I move my finger, or should I say yes to it, and force the finger to stay in contact with the hot surface?

I am not being facetious.

If you say "keep your finger there", that's fine. You are being consistent. Although then it's doubtful whether the principles are practical.

If you say "Move your finger", then you have deviated from the principles and you are effectively saying the principles are not valid for certain situations. Where do you then draw the line?

You burn your finger and kept it on the stove. A bandage and cool water wont help, so you rush off to hospital. You are annoyed waiting in the hospital for 3 hours, and you are hungry, and on top of that your finger and hand is burned and painful.

The doctor finally arrives.....you see, somehow- out of sheer coincidence- it is your father you have been searching for all this time. He heals your finger, and your heart is finally joyous with your long reuniting....Welcome to the yes man game.
