Different levels of existence have different laws or rules of regulation, this is why when you start astral projecting you can get to confusing levels that are counter to our physical level.

So on this level when you want to go forward you find yourself going backwards, when you try to go up you fall down, when you try to go down you fall up, right and left are reversed. On this level a door usually on one side of a room is on the other, it is like a mirror level of existence.

This means when you are on this level you can hold in your hand something that seems the size of a marble that is as big as a house. It doesn't make sense it is totally abstract, to some they can find these alternate levels as terrifying as hell nothing makes sense, others may find these alternate levels as interesting like I do.

I believe that Lewis Carroll was inspired by an astral projection dream, we can feel like we are raising or falling in an astral projection, Lewis I believe "fell" the rabbit hole is the tunnel and the world Alice landed in was an alternate level.

With all of this understanding, we see the term "down the rabbit hole" which started with the hit movie "What the bleep do you know" is talking about going to a place where everything we believe we know is totally out of sync with what is being experienced or learned about.

Isaiah 62:10 Zion’s New Name New International Version (NIV)

Pass through, pass through the gates! Prepare the way for the people. Build up, build up the highway! Remove the stones. Raise a banner for the nations.

as one goes deeper within one's self and explore one's being, one gets closer to source.

It’s used also as a reference to Mind Control Programming, especially with regards to the process of discovering the various layers of mind control that are in place to keep the human population from exercising complete free will.

However, there are various layers from extreme control as in Marylyn Monroe's case, to medium control where the participants were willing at some stage such as in the Special Forces (Delta Force), and finally the rest of us who are for the most part controlled through information.

In our case the most visible form of control is the media where most of the information is highly streamlined through controlled channels so that only a particular "version" of the event is always presented to us.

However, far more invisible than this is the realization that the entire structure of "authentication" of any opinion is highly managed through "legitimate" instruments called "institutions" of authentication.

To know how this information is managed, one has to follow the method by which these institutions exist, which eventually leads to the question of FUNDING.

You follow that funding trail and it leads to a few organizations with incredible power and wealth, the founders of whom invariably turn out to be members of the most secretive of societies.

You follow the trail of what these societies believe in and it leads to the question of the control of humanity.

Which leads to the question of who put us (humanity) here on this planet and why?

And it leads to an interesting realization that most people on this forum can grasp.

If the worlds "events" are all a result of the Human factor, where we, humans, ultimately create any "event" that affects the planet in a significant way, then, understanding how to manage this influence is key to anyone wanting ultimate control over this planet.

But there is the question of Karmic Consequence, a cause & effect phenomenon, where anyone trying to interfere with deliberate intent will have to suffer the Karmic Consequence of that interference on a soul level themselves.

Therefore, the best way around the problem is to give the choices to the ones within a reality of creation (Humanity) and gently nudge them towards the outcome of a specific desire in a way where the creator of the reality (Humanity) arrives at that desired outcome by their own free will.

To do that there has to be a way to inject the desired outcome into the database of information from which reality creation is taking place.

And that "thing" which has the ability to influence our individual "intent" and still allow a back door for outside influence to manipulate "our reality" is the thing that we know as "CONSCIOUSNESS".

Because we are, completely swimming and literally drowning in the influence of individual consciousness we are not aware that what "occurs" within us can be injected into our intellect from elsewhere.

And we have the "Free Will" to choose ideas upon which we want to act.

We think that we are only controlled through Lust and Excitement, but we are un-aware that we are also controlled through Anger, Despair, Shame, Revenge, and Pride (and much more).

It is not that "Consciousness" is foreign to us.

But it is that "Consciousness" does not belong to us alone.

Consciousness is our invisible grid of connection through all of humanity and all of creation.

However, we were meant to consult it like an internal encyclopedia instead of being completely addicted to it.

Our soul exists in the absence of consciousness, a realization that is found through meditation.

Through consciousness, we manipulate our individual reality, but unknown to us, the content of this consciousness is being interfered with from elsewhere and from the collective.

In reality if we poison the air we breathe, it affects everyone around.

It is the same with consciousness where you are a witness to a shared dimension from your perspective just like your physical existence is a point of reference within a shared reality.

Therefore, what we believe is highly managed, especially if that belief was a result of the "system" such as the educational system.

This is not a dismissal of the system, for without it we would have an un-manageable mess of individual ideas constantly fighting for superiority.

The point is to realize that the products of the system "The highly educated" are the best candidates to break free from the system for they can see the purpose and the problems within a manipulated reality and a free will reality.

We do not have a free will reality just yet, but hopefully that is where we are heading now.

Now to answer the real question at hand.

This process of discovery as presented in this answer is a typical example of "going down the rabbit hole".

If the reader is curious about the Alice in Wonderland connection to Mind control feel free to type those two ideas together in Google.

(14 Oct '12, 15:25) The Traveller

Also a good source of mind control is to research the works of Fritz Fritz springmeier, who wrote many books on the subject before he was villified (framed?) by the system.

This link below is an interview with Fritz on the Alex Jones show where he speaks about his arrest.

The Alice in Wonderland reference on the above link occours at 0:27:28 but it's better to start slightly before that point.

have just finished reading your answer, and agree it is the difference between from above looking down as opposed to from below looking up.

Alice in Wonderland is is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the "literary nonsense" genre, a style or motif in literature that plays with the conventions of language and the rules of logic and reason via sensical and non-sensical elements. This genre is most easily recognizable by the various techniques it uses to create nonsensical effects, such as neologism and faulty cause and effect.

In common usage, when people speak of going down the rabbit hole, they speak of embarking on an adventure into the unknown, or into an area of confusion or chaos. It can also be used as a reference to the use of hallucinogenic drugs, although Lewis Carroll never meant this; rather, the story is more akin to a dream.

I presume that you refer to the rabbit hole in the metaphorical sense, as when Morpheus said to Neo, "Take the red pill, and you stay in Wonderland; and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." In this sense, I think Morpheus means that you leave one world, and enter another that is completely different. In a way, our spiritual quest is not that much different than this; in order to explore the spiritual realm, you must leave this world and enter another (at least in an experiential sense).

i think it is quite sensical and logic, even if it is methaphorical. A kōan (公案?)pron.: /ˈkoʊ.ɑːn/; Chinese: 公案; pinyin: gōng'àn; Korean: 공안 (kong'an); Vietnamese: công án) is a story, dialogue, question, or statement, which is used in Zen-practice to provoke the "great doubt", and test a student's progress in Zen practice. Two hands clap and there is a sound. What is the sound of one hand?

Really, "the rabbit hole" is the accessing site to a long "tunnel" with many curvatures and ramifications which conduct to other holes, realizing a labyrinth-like construction, with more entrances/outlets, from one to the others.

Also, the location has a metaphorical sense, meaning "to hide where you cannot be snatching up"

Thanks white tiger for pointing out that "the rabbit is a symbol of something and the hole also" - rabbits breed fast which leads us to 'multi dimensionality' and hole is a passage, a doorway leading to other worlds, other dimensions. In our own life experience this is descending to become awake, exploring our inner self, much in the same way that laying in bed, half asleep, we can have the impression of the bed slowly turning as we descend a spiral into sleep, the real world of dreams and imagination.

If i ask you do you want to go down the rabbit hole.you know that you are not a rabbit so it make sense to assume that it is metaphore. So the rabbit is the symbol of something and the hole also is symbol. So what is the symbol or concept and what does it represent and what does it relate to? example:What does water ritual as to do with born of water and spirit?water you can touch with the hand but how does the spirit relate to water?Outside water and inner water are similar but 2 different things. What are the propriety of water that can apply to spirit? Reflection, wave, storm, vibration its TDS. Transderivational search (often abbreviated to TDS) is a psychological and cybernetics term, meaning when a search is being conducted for a fuzzy match across a broad field. In computing the equivalent function can be performed using content-addressable memory.

Unlike usual searches, which look for literal (i.e. exact, logical, or regular expression) matches, a transderivational search is a search for a possible meaning or possible match as part of communication, and without which an incoming communication cannot be made any sense of whatsoever. It is thus an integral part of processing language, and of attaching meaning to communication.

A psychological example of TDS is in Ericksonian hypnotherapy, where vague suggestions are used that the patient must process intensely to find their own meanings for, thus ensuring that the practitioner does not intrude his own beliefs into the subject's inner world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transderivational_search

It is like solving a puzzle by putting the piece together. If you solve a puzzle even if it seams non-sensical once you solve it it makes perfect sense.

In this world we build stuff using different part and applying it in different ways and form. 2 things that look different at the beguinning can be very similar or share compatible or similar things once look more in deep.

Just look at technology new technology arrise and some technology blend in together.who could have said 40 years ago that phone would use radio waves or play movie, capture movie, take picture, surf the net,etc... you would have ask that question to someone 40 years ago. Like what do the phone and radio have in common? and they would have said nothing. Or someone would have said they both use speaker, energy and electromagnetic waves and they could be use in one device. And many would have said that person is crazy.

Yet is it so crazy?

It was in use over 2000 years ago to hide knowledge and wisdom for those that where able to decipher it.

Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.

For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that, ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.

Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown. When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

Jesus said, "Know what is in front of your face, and what is hidden from you will be disclosed to you.

For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. [And there is nothing buried that will not be raised.]"

And he said, "Whoever discovers the interpretation of these sayings will not taste death."
