I never thought this day would come to me, for I am naturally a very thrify person. I didn't really understand what Stingray and the others said in both of the questions linked above till it happened to me.

Simply put, I am a student now and not working, so it is very obvious where my money is coming from and where I spend it on. Let's just say that my situation goes like this:

  • When I have 0$, I would tend to scrimp and save a lot
  • When I have a few thousand after a few months or years, I might feel a little more comfortable and not scrimp and save that much
  • But once I am reaching 9000$-10000$, I seem to just spend all of the stuff on random crap (note that these numbers are just arbitary and can be replaced by any other numbers)
  • Looking at my past expenses for the last 500-1000$, they have really literally been spent on random crap.. even stuff which I bought wrongly. For instance I wanted to buy a headphone for listening to an mp3 but I ended up buying a headphone that only has a USB port (no audio jack) which means I cant use it at all.
  • Even though I am noticing this trend now, I try to save, but somehow I just have the urge to spend. And it's too weird for me to be feeling this way because I am normally a very thrifty guy

so the main question is whether should I worry about all this ? Or just spend if I feel like it? And in that link above the method is more for people who are earning a regular income, what should one do if he does not have any regular income?

At the risk of sounding facetious, when is worry ever a useful course of action? :)

To me, there's nothing much to be concerned about. You've just gained some valuable, practical insights now into exactly how limiting beliefs work.

This is a good thing :)

In your case, you are seeing the effects of the limiting belief dramatically being played out through your financial situation.

But it also works exactly the same way for health, relationships...well, everything else in your life too.

To be fair though, the financial belief is only a belief. If you are happy with that level of income, it's not limiting...it's actually serving you. It's only limiting when you feel that your current level of income is no longer enough for you.

I'm not seeing how you are saying that the method in the other answer only applies to those earning a regular income - I don't have anything that looks remotely like a regular income, in the sense of a salary-style approach to living, but I still notice these effects.

If you have a belief that you can only make $10,000 a year then you'll find a way to let that amount of money into your life somehow regardless of whether it is through some "regular" income or not. And, as you've now noticed, you'll find a way to dispose of the surplus when you've exceeded the bounds of your financial "allowing".
