Lately, I have been hearing the phrase "The Lord told me" such and such I get skeptical of the person every time I hear that. BTW- this doesn't mean I don't have faith in God.... asked 22 Jul '10, 00:29 Back2Basics |
Hello... Anyone courageous enough to speak the words ["The Lord told me..."] had better prepare themselves for much scrutiny from GOD and others. The person better make sure that they are 100% sure of their claim. By professing ["The Lord told me..."], you are actually putting words in GOD's mouth. If these words contain ANY error, then you are making a public mockery of GOD's character and making Him out to be a LIAR. For this reason, many people today do not take "Christianity" seriously. Too many people in too many "Christian" denominations have claimed words, actions, and prophecies in GOD's name with DISASTROUS results. If you are foolish enough to attempt this, you will be bringing much judgment into your life. The warnings are clear: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” [Galatians 6:7] “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” [Proverbs 30:5,6] “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” [Deuteronomy 4:2] “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.” [Deuteronomy 12:13] “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” [Revelation 22:18,19] Throughout history, GOD communicated with man in a number of ways. However, the reason that you do not need to "hear" GOD's voice today is because GOD took the time to WRITE His Words in a book for you: The Bible. Any claim of ["The Lord told me..."] must absolutely conform to GOD's written Words. If ANY belief, doctrine, or conduct is contrary to the context of His written Words, then you must evaluate the source of the claim. If you cleave unto the Words of the Lord, you will always be able to discern truth from error through the work of GOD’s Spirit in you. GOD places His Spirit in you when you choose to be BORN-AGAIN. It is GOD’s Spirit which guides you, teaches you, exposes error, and confirms the truth. The following is just an example of some nonsensical [“The Lord told me…”] claims which have been falsely attributed to GOD. Allowing for some variance, I believe that we have all come across some form of these claims during our lifetime: “I know I make minimum wage, but the Lord told me to buy a Ferrari.” “I know I have no back-up plan, but the Lord told me to quit my job.” “I know I have a heart condition, but the Lord told me to continue eating deep-fried foods.” “I know stealing is wrong, but the Lord told me it is acceptable to steal from the rich.” “My wife is disobedient, so the Lord told me I can physically abuse her.” “The government is dishonest, so the Lord told me to stop paying my taxes.” “I know I am on welfare, but the Lord told me to have 8 kids.” “I know that Jesus Christ is the head of the invisible Body of Christ, but the Lord told me to follow my pastor.” “I know all the Apostles are dead, but the Lord told me that I have the power to exorcise devils, raise the dead, and heal all manner of disease.” “I know the Bible confirms the SIN judgment, but the Lord told me that Hell does not exist.” Observe how GOD Himself commanded Israel to evaluate the words of a prophet: “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” [Deuteronomy 18:20-22] In conclusion, I totally agree with Back2Basics. Whether a vision, dream, spoken word, or written word, we must all be very skeptical and investigate ALL claims that include the statement [“The Lord told me…”] in order to verify their conformity to GOD’s written Words. Thanks for reading. It's very simple. It's a combination of being connected and having a strong belief. For example: if someone is a strong believer in Christianity they'll hear the voices of and/or see visions of Jesus or their idea of God; maybe like Moses and the burning bush. If someone is a strong beiever in Buddhism or Hinduism, they'll hear the voices of and/or see visions of Buddha or the Hindu deities.
What difference does it make whether someone gets meaningful messages from a higher level or part of their awareness or from God him/her self? Who other than you can prove these things to you?
Turn it around so that you really listen. Why do you assume that God, who loves you unconditionally, isn't trying to reach you 24/7? Yes my friend, it's all about belief. Something a skeptic will never understand, until such a time that he does. But then he's no longer a skeptic... Allow for the possibility that those who hear really do have a strong connection, that's being expressed through their beliefs. There's no one out there to deny that all paths lead to Rome, eventually. answered 22 Jul '10, 14:09 Eddie Great answer! I totally agree!

@Eddie: but this is confusing because many killers have claimed they heard a voice telling them to murder a child. Some cult leaders hear God telling them a mass suicide is needed as a sacrifice. So how does this fit into everything we hear is from God. the God I believe in would never tell anyone to murder a child.

@Back2Basics - communication from God is a personal matter. If you're connected, no interpreter or intermediary is necessary. If someone you know is hearing voices advising them to commit murder, seek psychological help for them ASAP. If not, why even pay any attention to those kinds of people or ideas? There’s communication from God and there’s ego-self created insanity, which are two entirely different things...

I believe that every experience is a spiritual experience so we can see and hear the presence of God or the Universe in everything that we do. Life is a mirror. That is how source reflects back to us where we are. The Universe is speaking to you everyday. Just look at what is going on in your life and you will know what the voice is saying. answered 22 Jul '10, 22:58 Drham |
I believe God/Universe is everywhere and in everything, you can hear God speak in various ways. A stranger might randomly make a statement that is the ansewr to a question you are trying to solve. Direction regarding a path you wish to pursue might come from reading an article in a magazine while waiting in the Dr's office. Often God/Universe will speak to you via a dream. God works through people and things...Remain open, be still, and listen. This to me is the voice of God/Universe. answered 23 Jul '10, 20:52 GS415 |
Yes God, Jesus Christ, does talks to us in this day and time. How you may ask by you first personally developing a personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ. How do I do that read your holy bible, ask Jesus Christ into your heart and life, ask forgiveness of all of your sins, ask for guidance, be baptize in the name of the father, son, and the holy spirit and ask for his help. Tell him that you do not understand, or know whether he exist or not that you are seeking guidance,if this is true, understand and truly finding out if he is real say Lord please show me and he will either directly or indirectly. You will know the answer came from God/Jesus Christ. Remember that you have a spirit inside of your physical body and it know God/Jesus Christ and the spirit of truth will let you know that it is real and righteousness of God/Jesus Christ. When you ask Jesus inside of you he will come and dwell there and connect with your spirit and you will know through your personal relationship with him. Once you have start your personal relationship with God/Jesus Christ than continue to develop it by talking to God, reading your bible, and asking him to show you the way sincerely don't worry he knows you very well, he knows everything about you so just let loose and talk to him as though he is your very best friend which he is. Yes, he may actually speak to you or you will read a sign on a bill board, or a big truck, you hear something on tv, or someone will call you. You will get the message that he has heard you and is answering your prayers. Once you have develop your personal relationship with God/Jesus Christ than you know that you know that you know and know one can take that away from you because you and God/Jesus Christ has develop this relationship together and you know he does exist and he hears your prayers.. Now, are there people who say God told me to do this which was bad thing to another human beings. Yes, than that person is on drugs legal or illegal both can cause you to hear things in your head, mentally disturb, their are demons and other entities that are evil that will have you to harm yourself or others. Maybe there are others completing for your mind so guard it well. Develop that personal relationship with God/Jesus Christ and and when it becomes strong than you will know. Ask God/Jesus Christ to give you understanding of the words you read in the bible so you will have the correct understanding of the written word. Continue to sincerely ask and have a open spiritual mind and he will reveal things to you and answer your question. Why do you think God wants us to pray to him he wants to communicate with us, love us, and protect us. He is a loving God he is no statue who can not move, talk, see, hear or love. God/Jesus Christ is real and he can talk, hear, see, heal, walk and protect and love you. He is all powerful and loving. He has not stop his miracles we may have stop believing in them or him but his power has not stop nor will it ever stop. answered 08 Aug '10, 05:02 flowingwater |
Yes God does talk to people, however when you start hearing His message as if someone was speaking to you, your first stop should be the psychiatrist, most schizophrenics seem to hear "God" speaking to them. So how does God talk to us? It is the voice of our conscience. When an inner voice or feeling guides us either causing us to hesitate about something or get a "hunch" that this is the right decision, or when vibrational matches start showing up in our life all that is God's way of communicating with us. According to the Quran God is closer to you than your jugular i.e. He is inside you and your subconsience is hearing Him loud and clear at all times, its just that we don't hear our own subconsience. answered 26 Jul '10, 11:28 I Think Therefore I Am |

Please Please let me know the chapter and verse where these things are stated,Im very interested after years of Bible study to know where in the Bible this comes from. Many thanks. Graham Ps In no way am i knocking the faith you have or your excellent relationship with The Father.Your attitude to God seems great. answered 02 Sep '10, 13:50 Monty Riviera “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) i think that is what flowing water refer to monty.

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." so look for the fruit.if it is good it comes from god. answered 27 Jun '11, 04:07 white tiger |
Nothing wrong with being skeptical, hope and doubt find themselves equal when hope is at it's lowest point and when doubt is at it's lowest point which is actually higher up the scale but further from the it's purpose and nowhere to go but reverse. This is the nature of forward motion and resistance and it is why good is gooder than good can get and evil is something lesser than nothing, never more and always less. How do we know when we are hearing our innerbeing? We use the term innerbeing because it is a little easier to identify with ourselves than it is to identify with a label for something that cant be labeled, is above all labels and was before the idea of any label existed. Lord with all capitol letters, the holy three aka big G. floating around in outer space, sitting on a cloud contemplating his creations mistakes waiting to strike back with fire from the sky to punish the freewill beings for the freedom he gave them.*sarcasm of course. We should easily identify with the George Carlin'ish message. The reason it is difficult to discern if our innerbeing is us or us is because our inner being is us! Here is how we know the difference...How do I know? I had the very same question that you are having. I asked very honestly and just my luck she gave me the most perfect answer that anyone could give and it has been worth it every drop of the goodness it has offered. She is the sweetest woman and I had known her and her husband for many years before asking them that question. She said God (yes she used the 3 letter word..She said God will always encourage you and will never discourage you. Wow! That was too easy right? Yes! It really is that easy, the way of the spirit is easier, The way is forward motion and downstream not paddling desperately upstream against the current in opposition to the natural order of things. Ask yourself doesn't it feel better to smile at someone than to snarl? And when they smile back doesn't that make it even more worth it? If we could truly understand and appreciate that little forced smile and the value that it has in that moment, the next smile will be much less forced if not genuine! And this is Ascension! What if the snarl feels better than strangling them? The snarl is also Ascension! answered 29 Oct '19, 18:27 Ingoes One |
