[Though I think the R&D of weapons is important because they can lead to other technology advances and one must always be able to defend themselves, I refer simply to active combat assets.]
Is there any contribution to man or mankind war provides which could not be fulfilled by any other methods? It is commonly said there is nothing poetic about war, there is no glory in war, common quotes like this. But don't we have to admit at some point there are good things which can be drawn from tragedy? Isn't much of our noted history and well known quotes from tragic events? Ring around the rosie for example.. Do you personally believe this is possible at our present point in history? Do you believe this would have been possible any time in the past? asked 21 Jul '13, 22:15 Snow

@Snow- What a good question! But complicated... When a man like Hitler takes over a country, and has super-evil ambitions to take over all the countries he can...and is a absolutely convincing public speaker to boot...Well, then, the rest of the world has a big problem. He started annihilating the Jews, which compounded the trouble hugely. The rest of the world had to choice but to stop him. Millions of people died, one way or the other because of Hitler's "vision". Bad news for us. So, ultimately, we have to confront the fact that there will always be evil people, and that they do not care about feeding the world, exploring space, ending diseases, or anything like that. They just want P-O--W-E-R!!! But if the world did end warring and start to promote peace...then you would see billions of dollars become available for food, medicine, research, space exploration (THE place to develop new stuff like Teflon and advanced computers....). You would see Heaven on Earth! Utopia! But what about evil people?? What do we do with them? Aye, there's the rub... Great question...I could go on and on about the Philosophy behind this...But I won't. Love you, Jai answered 22 Jul '13, 10:26 Jaianniah |
I believe it is entirely plausible to be without conflict at present. And theoretically possible that it is, or was, always true in our past. The one significant key to a 'good' war (battle, willingness to fight over disagreements) is the idea of (self) defense. As long as that's the view of own self, then war is always on the table, especially if 'need for defense' is deemed permissible and/or seen as justifiable. I honestly can't imagine a world where defense is deemed necessary, and war is somehow magically not with us. answered 22 Jul '13, 12:45 Jman |
I wouldn't waste a second trying to change this world. Its a school house, it is the way it is. Its here to change us! We look into the mirror of life , don't like what we see and then try to change the mirror. The mirror is doing its job, the world is perfect. Also the people in the world DONT need changing. The ONLY thing we can change is ourselves. That's the only challenge, its the one thing that will change our world. The world is doing its job perfectly. answered 23 Jul '13, 03:37 Monty Riviera 1
At what point does the world stop doing its job perfectly? Hypothetical; cataclysmic event knocks out planetary power infrastructure. World falls into chaos slipping into the past hundreds of years almost overnight. Would you tell people trying to rally and repair civilization the world is perfect as is so there's no reason to bother your pretty little head with trying to change it? If everyone 'good' just 'let it be' those who don't share your apathy would still keep working through the night..

Good question. The world never does stop doing its job perfectly. It doesn't reach a point and then stop doing this. Like you a hate apathy, ive been working away slowly but surely to change my world. I must admit thou that ive only been doing this work "within" but im very happy with the results nevertheless.

While war and fear of war have advanced technology, it has only advanced humanity in pockets around the globe. These advancements being things like the new awesome jet Iran just built. This jet unfortunately could one day be used against us. So we develop new things like our awesome invisible tank. Unfortunately one day it could be used against someone. We went to the moon first because of fear that Russia may beat us there. Then Russia built a space station because we went to the moon. This advancement is forced on us as in advance or die. It is worry over what the other has and what do we have to top it. We see other countries warring for freedom and capitalism and have grown in compassion to help them gain freedom to have a capitalist system of government. Others see America and what we have done to it and they say I want that too. I want rights to be able to live and express my self as I want. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sTZmyZ8jtw0 America is the great experiment to mold the New World Order on. Freedom for all the world, rights for all the people of the world. This creates a healthy environment for capitalism and progress for all humanity. It gives all opportunity to say, "How can I make this better?" It gives all the freedom to build new inventions and create lasting value. This is only the beginning with the world set free through global agreement for the benefit of humanity it sets the stage for cooperation of countries in global projects of advancement! The world knows how good NASA is, it is a USA corporation. Now imagine if it were a global corporation! Dreamers, scientist and inventors world wide contributing! Not only this but, investors from every government funding them! I believe we would be terraforming Mars already. We would have a moon base already. It would not be America's achievement it would be Earth's achievement! NASA found proof that Mars once had an ocean that covered one third of the planet. We can terraform it, as NASA has plans to do so. http://news.discovery.com/space/red-planet-riviera-ancient-mars-coastline-found-130716.htm http://quest.nasa.gov/mars/background/terra2.html The G3 meetings are for just that, the cooperation of the planet for the advancement of humanity. answered 22 Jul '13, 16:49 Wade Casaldi 1
Excellent answer. If you're anything like me and having to re-draft after losing a post it never quite comes out to the same caliber as the original. If that's the case, it must have been amazing. Great quote.. "It would not be America's achievement it would be Earth's achievement!" This mindset (or the absence thereof) I believe is what will decide the fate of our species. Thanks for sharing. =)

This will not happen. Because history only repeats. Let us see why and how! Sociology presents, among other theories, what they call SOCIAL CYCLE THEORY which states that “events and stages of society and history are generally repeating themselves in cycles.” Interpretation of history as repeating cycles of Golden and Dark Ages was a common belief among ancient cultures. Bible too confirms that history passes through four different stages with 2nd to 4th steadily decling in quality; and it symbolizes each stage with metals such as pure gold, silver, bronze and iron respectively. (Daniel 2: 31-44) History of the righteous will be “like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day,” then it becomes dimmer and dimmer to become “deep darkness” at the end. (Compare Proverbs 4:18, 19) Thus history is broadly divided into “Day,” a period when people would live by the light within, and to NIGHT, a period when people would live selfishly. (Compare John 9:4; and 11:10, and 1 John 1:6) And NIGHT will climax when people will perfect their selfishness in all its forms. (2 Timothy 3:1-5) This classification of DAY and NIGHT suggests that history repeats itself just like day and night do. If history repeats itself like DAY and NIGHT, its longevity is simply incalculable. Archaeological finds take history into past indefinite! How can one be sure that history repeats itself? Turning to history books may not help. Often, history is written by winners, or history is written to suit the purpose of its writer or the Authority that appoints him for the job. When I studied history in the school, Aryan invasion of India [which had exerted tremendous influence on India’s social set-up] was part of our syllabus. Now it is learned that such a thing has never happened, it is a myth. This is true of other branches of science too. When some scientists presented Piltdown Man as the greatest proof for evolution theory, other scientists proved it as hoax. This means whatever the scientists say need not be scientific, just as whatever a joker says need not be a joke! You can see a list of HOAXES in any Encyclopedia. Apostle Paul warns against putting blind faith in whatever we hear or read: “I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard!” (Acts 20:29-31) If this is the case with religious writing, you can imagine how reliable it will be the so called secular history writing! So, is the situation hopeless? No, the same Bible authorizes to do something in parallel: “Test them all; hold on to what is good [originally kalos, Greek, meaning inherently and intrinsically good], reject every kind of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21, 22) Hence we are under obligation to take only what our REASON concludes as something inherently and intrinsically good. For example, we may read in Evolution & History books that Homo Sapiens appeared on earth lakhs of years ago. Here we need to use our reason: How many years needed for a couple to have 4 children? 8 years. Let us give 150 years! Now make this simple calculation: First couple produced 4 children in 150 years, and they died. These 4 children [or 2 couples] produced 4 children each [total 8] in another 150 years. If we calculate like this, it would take only 4800 [150 x 32] years to reach more than 8.5 Billion population, which is more than the current population of the whole earth. Let us see what happens in front of our eyes, and use the power of our reason to arrive at a firm conclusion. We will do something like ocean-examination (By tasting some drops from here and there, we conclude its water is salty). Similarly, let us take some samples of human behavior:
So, what would these attitudes and behavioral pattern of human-beings lead to, once again? They will inevitably cause / invoke another world war and catastrophe that will bring us back to the beginning of the next cycle of time. History repeats itself! answered 23 Jul '13, 06:36 T D Joseph Snow Welcome to IQ Joseph. Thanks for sharing, hope to see more from you. We cannot change other people, we cannot change the world. We can only change ourselves, and when we do, our world changes. I can't remember who said that, but I've noticed that when I change, I change people around me. If we all focus on peace within, we will see peace without. answered 24 Aug '13, 21:51 Beach Baby |

I had an answer to this that was huge. It was an amazing work filled with where our eventual future is heading as a planet. I went to post it and got a web page not found error and lost everything. Maybe I'll try a third time, first time my phone shut down for some reason!
