I have heard this from my childhood on up of if a cat walks across a bridge it will shake it. Just how does this come about? Now, I know there is a lot of mystery surround a cat and even magic and of course a cat has 9 lives they say; I am not arguing the point either way about the 9 lives but I have heard of people telling stories of their cats losing lives and returning or so it seems it was them. I do like cats and I think they are very mysterious and very loving and protective of you. asked 06 Feb '11, 12:26 flowingwater Barry Allen ♦♦

Because the cat is setting up a resonant frequency in the bridge. Resonant frequencies are the reason that children can swing on a swing-set higher and higher, with just a little extra force applied on each swing. It's what causes a crystal glass to hum (and shatter, under the right conditions) when you circle a moistened fingertip around the rim of the glass. Resonant frequencies are what caused the Tacoma Narrows bridge to collapse from a 40 mile per hour wind. It was a flaw in the original design. The video of the collapse is quite dramatic. answered 07 Feb '11, 00:16 Vesuvius Good one I should have caught that being that I was just talking about this at length in another answer about controlling nature. Instead my mind went to (because I own cats) how cats can walk on a wobbly banister without making it move! lol

Mystery? Animals have been observed throughout the ages, being recognized for their similar characteristics to humans. Domesticated animals like cats and dogs have had a closer relationship with humans, which brings us to your understanding of cats. Cats have been said to have 9 lives due to their resiliency. They also share physical characteristics that people may find indistinguishable. Magic is a way of explaining the unexplainable and a shaking bridge is unsturdy. answered 07 Feb '11, 02:54 Constantine |

Can you provide some video/picture links to some shaking bridges caused by walking cats?
What kind of bridge like a rope bridge? You can't mean steal or concrete right?
Sorry Stingray I could not find any videos on it nor do I have any but I have been told this many times by people of a while back. I was wondering was it because cats are surrounded by the mystic of magic and witches has anything to do with it?
I have never heard what kind of bridge they just said a cat will shake a bridge if it walks on it. I have heard this so many times. I know about the rope bridge with the soldiers marching on it and they have to march out of step because march in step causes the rope to swing harder back and forth and the continue rubbing of the rope against what is holding it causes the rope to break and be cut into by the friction. I just read that somewhere looking up videos Stingray was asking about, Wade Casaldi. I figured Wade you would have answered with your raised vibrational frequency as you comment.
No I mean soldiers can march over metal or concrete and it will crumble from the resonant frequency of the march. But cats just seemed to be so stealthy that I could see no effect from the cat.
Oh, ok over the concrete as well wow that is something. Thanks for your comment Wade Casaldi.
I own 3 cats, or rather they have decided to live with me. Mr G my biggest one WOULD shake a bridge,he weighs a tonne!! Seriously thou ,i too find them very proud and mysterious creatures. They seem to have more choices in life than a Dog does. They arnt as blindly loyal to anything as their canine fellows. They seem to weigh up and decide for themselves more. I like that.
Yeah, I like that 3 Cats who seem to have chosen YOU Graham Cook cats are very mysterious, loving and loyal but there is a mystic about them that most humans have yet to unfold!
Here is a cat that barks like a dog until caught by the owner. Mysterious indeed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP3gzee1cps
