Maybe because most people - including you and me - would simply crucify them, call them ''devils'' and ''evil ones'', and instead of teaching and guiding people, they will find themselves in a war against them. Would you want that for yourself ? .. or would you choose to simply live in peace and die in peace?

Please, forget about the idea that ''spiritually advanced'' people should sacrifice themselves for ''humanity''. That will never happen, again. Now, each and every one of us should pay his own bills, make his own choices, heal his own body, and even forgive his own sins. Maybe this is what being ''spiritually advanced'' is all about! ..

Maybe .. their own absence is a lesson - the most important lesson - that most of us just choose not to learn.

I do not think that Spiritually advanced people are as rare as we think they are.I'm sure you are aware of Bodhisattvas,Liaka and Earthkeepers just to mention a few, that prefer to help Humankind without being in the forefront, not such a bad idea. Love and Light:)

I would tend to use the term "enlightened" as opposed to spiritually advanced. We're just all at different stages on our journey and none more advanced than others. Without a doubt there are some exceptional beings who are fully enlightened and get the whole picture. For most of these they are quite happy to stay out of the limelight as their real intention is to help mankind end our suffering and awake to who we truly are.I don't think a genuinely enlightened person could ever become tired of helping others - that is their mission here, and I'm sure the satisfaction and joy they derive from helping others outweighs any urge to be tired of it.

I once asked a friend of mine who is a firm believer in the law of attraction, why don't I hear a lot about people who are astoundingly rich and own more riches than you could ever imagine. Surely they must exist.

He answered that I am just not a vibrational match to those people as I don't feel as prosperous as they do. If you feel prosperous, you will attract those people in your life as they do exist. I think there is some truth in this.

And now, do I dare make my answer specific to your question...

I don't think they're all that rare. I think they don't feel a strong need for self-promotion, so they quietly go about performing their enlightened works. Of course, there are people who occasionally notice there's something different about a spiritually-advanced person; and at other times, the works themselves are significant enough that they draw attention to the one who performs them. With some exceptions, I don't think they are intentionally keeping their works secret, they are simply focused on the task at hand and don't get caught up in making a show of themselves.

Very good question and good answers too. I'm tempted to add my two cent's worth. It is not uncommon to view spiritually advanced people as beacons of virtue or close to being perfect.

People can be spiritually 'advanced' yet be grappling with personal life issues at the same time. So, appearances deceive! Some of the people involved in the 'spiritual' stream do very actively seek publicity and limelight. It turns out that not all of them seek publicity only to draw attention to the cause for waking people up to higher possibilities but sometimes even for mundane and selfish reasons too.

What criteria do we use to recognize the 'spiritually advanced people'? Luke Skywalker, in the Star Wars, initially rejects the advanced Jedi Master Yoda because Yoda doesn't correspond to Luke's idea of an advanced Jedi Master. It seems that almost all great masters have to perform miracle to convince ordinary people. Jesus had to perform miracles like converting water into wine, raise the dead and calm the stormy sea before his disciples took him seriously. So, it seems that we cannot recognize spiritually advanced people if we are not ready for it.

The fact that you are asking the question could mean that your own soul is trying to inspire you towards this worthy quest. I think spiritual quest is an inner drive within all of us & some have become better at it perhaps over many lifetimes of accumulated effort.

It is quite possible that if all of us start believing that spiritually advanced people are everywhere, with enough of us reaching a critical mass of consciousness we could push the balance over causing a flood of spontaneous awakening within our group and within mankind.

Or maybe we can just watch TV and forget the whole thing & let the next generation of incarnate souls perhaps 30-40 thousand years in the future try the same experiment of mass spiritual awakening.

Everyone is spirirtually advanced,they just havent learnt how to get in touch with their gifts.They block the fact that it even exist.They are what is known to us with these abilities as sceptics.They don't even want to know what we can do,or even hear about it,and in doing so they block their own abilities.You have to see things differantly,and go through many differant tests that only a gifted person knows what im talking about.You have to let your inner self come to serface.Thats why its hard to find people with these gifts,not that there isn't alot of them,they may not want to except the change.Or alot of times they aren't noticed as gifted,but as a crazy person in order to satisfy human answers.All in all, we do all have these gifts.Just let them come to serface,and keep an open mind,you'll see.

There is no such thing as spiritually advanced.

Why are spiritually advanced people so rare? The Bible teaches that many are called, and few are chosen! Are you one of the chosen one, and if so, how spiritually advanced are you, and who would you compare yourself to?

Do you consider yourself rare, if so, why, and where do you think that you fit into this rare group of spiritually advanced people?

All human beings are spiritually advanced in the level of their understanding in the spiritual aspects of things. Some of us are latent in learning to use, and develop our unique gifts, and spirituality; while some of us have the natural ability of a seeker, and will continue to explore our unique gifts, and spirituality.

It is said that we are limited in our knowledge, and that learning is continuous. Therefore, we should never cease to learn from each other, and to aspire to our best. Regardless of how much we try to learn, there is always going to be someone that knows something that we can learn from. The student learns from the teacher, in the same token that the teacher learns from the student.

We all have a choice in life, or a calling, to be whatever we feel drawn to. I am a seeker and I guess I will continue to be a seeker, because every day I learn something new that adds to the quality of my life, my advancement, and enlightenment spiritually.

Generally, some people are not interested in the subject matter of spiritual enlightenment; therefore I cannot share with them the work that I do, unless there are open to the subject. I cannot say to them, I am a healer, or sit down, and I will lay my hand upon your forehead, and pray, and heal you of your headache. They will probably think that I am certainly loosing it, and should be going in to see my family doctor for a check-up.

But you can still do the work you were called to do, and you can still help the people that will ask you for help, and you can still pray for the people that do not ask you for help, and maybe one day they will ask you for help. As they say life is full of surprises, and you never know what can happen!

an elnlightened person, no matter what the masses, and contemporary media tell you is extremely rare. Why" because to be enightened is to become unconditional love--no self...just Love. But the path to get there is not meditation as many would have you believe, as meditation is only a tool, and no matter how well you circle your fingers while in lotus position, you are only playing ego games with a tool. A hammer is a tool, but without wood, there is no house. Same for meditation--the hammer chipping away illusions. The wood, is to walk the path of informed experience, a difficult venture. Buddha said Life is like a golden lotus flower...has its roots in the mud, but pure at the top. You experiences, if in truth, will eventually bring pain--an end, and a death, and releasing pain brings empathy, and when one gets enough experiences "disillusioned" coupled with contemplation-meditation, the ego begins to lose power...and after many deepening cycles of pain-empathy...the ego dies (as empathy puts one in a struggle between it-empathy and ego-self. As long as a truly advanced empathic one has self, it becomes increasingly clear how self interfers with true connections and help etc, a painful realization with no cure. So then, out of final pain, empathy (when enough) kills final pain (of self) and only LOVE remains. Know any people who talk in this way...then there is your answer in just how many, and why so few. Most people push pain away, and trapped pain is suffering, they are different, with different effects....and suffering leads to meanness, and meanness to evil...opposite of love...but most go in that way to varying degrees. Most humans cant take the pain, and most think pain gives nothing beautiful...but releasing it properly grows empathy-the eventual killer of ego. And crossing that desert, and it is a desert, with not many comrades, in the final days, is a dry and bitter place to move through...a dark night so to speak...one of no place for ego, and absolute abandonment is felt on horizon...something all societies fear...the truth.

I believe you have probably answered your own question Vesuvius. I believe they do most of their good works in secret. I am sure they are tired. The world is an big place and humans are sick, frighten, and very doubtful.

I don't think spiritual advanced people are so rare but I do think they do what they do in private and in secret as possiable so that they are allowed to do more when they want to without being disturb by humans hanging around in the way. The work they are doing is of such great magnititude!

Jesus said be careful about entertaining strangers for you may be entertaining an angel. So, I am sure they are among us doing what they do best as well.

Yes, there are people, other beings, angels, and other entities here helping the earth and humans.

spiritual advancement is a process. its a road that many are not even aware exists- to seek the kingdom is to develope spiitually-if one does not even know to look -how can one possibilly find.thats the purpose of all religions- to remind people that they are to be concerned about their spiritual lives

Good question actually. Something that I often think on this 'road less travelled'..."where the heck are the others?" I too feel quite alone on this journey towards 'enlightenment'. For instance, in my workplace, all the others seem to be into very basic traits such as gossip, backbiting, complaining etc. I simply cannot relate to these people and refuse to enter into their ways. Thus, I feel alone a lot of the time. Perhaps I am not very 'enlightened' as I know that Jesus (THE enlightened One) spent most of his time with these sort of people, just loving and accepting them. I would love to meet other seekers of Truth from time to time. Perhaps I need to start thinking about them and then they will appear?

How do you define "advanced"? -- as "more advanced than the average"! Here you are, by definition you've just limited your target group. Seriously, if we lived on a spiritually-backward planet and you asked this question, the proportion of whom you considered "advanced" would stay the same, as you would treat as "advanced" those that are barely sentient by our standards here/now. Or am I just being a jerk with such a kind of answer? :)

God sends only the really advanced ones (prophets) everyone in a while when the majority of the world needs some straightening out.

as for being rare yes very fee find the narrow gate!or the middle way!but know this the earth always have 1 sun watching over it and giving it light always!what ever happens! well good luck on the path!
