my interpretation based on seth/jane roberts: the subconscious is the buffer between the ego and the superconscious. it holds data, information and identities (personas/archetypes/stereotypes) which the ego is unwilling or incapable of processing.

with progressive awakening, the ego expands to incorporate more of the subconscious. with progressive enlightenment, the light of consciousness shines brighter and awareness penetrates deeper.

the ego is the specialized part of waking consciousness.

Yes, there is a subconscious mind...but it has many other names apart from subconscious.

You might hear it referred to as the Universal Mind, the Master Within, the Higher Self and so on...

If you are new to this subject, then a good starting point for learning how to explore it would be to read the questions and answers already on this website...there are some powerful minds contributing here.

And then feel free to ask more questions if anything is not clear.

No question is too basic - if there is something you are not sure about, you can bet someone else somewhere in the world won't be sure about it also. :)

Yes, there is an subscious mind and a conscious mind. We use the conscious mind to control the subscious mind. We must go to the alpha state where we can assess the subscious mind and tell it what we want to do. For the subscious mind does not decide right or wrong good or bad it just gather information or data and tune it to the vibrational pattern your thought waves are sending it and plays it back to you as your reality. So, always be cautious of what you are thinking and speaking and bring calmness into your life.

The Incredible Power Of The Subconscious Mind "Whatever The Mind Can Conceive And Believe,It Can Achieve." -Napolean Hill

Subconscious mind has unlimited power. It regulates all involuntary vital processes like digestion, assimilation, elimination, circulation and all the gland secretions. It is responsible for building your body, repairing and operating it. If you can guide your subconscious mind, you can heal yourself. Subconscious mind can put you in health and keep you in perfect health. Not only that, it can also help you acquire all the good things in life.

Subconscious mind has immense wisdom and power. It never sleeps or rests. One drawback of subconscious mind is that it cannot decide on its own. Conscious mind is required to command and direct your subconscious mind. It can acquire anything you ask. It can fulfill all the desires of your heart.

The Power Of The Subconscious Mind will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of what is referred to in the scientific community as the feminine or right brain portion of the mind, which acts as the "translator" or "middle man" between the conscious mind and the Super Conscious Mind also referred to as God, Universal Consciousness or as referred to by modern day science, the "Unified Field."

Unlike the conscious mind which is the left brained masculine or dominant portion of your mind that interprets physical data through the 5 human senses like what you can see, hear, smell, taste and touch, the subconscious minds operation is primarily to manage and control the subconscious bodily functions. These subconscious functions are things like your heart beat, breathing, the continuous operation of physical organs etc. AND acts as an unlimited storage facility for all the information received through the conscious mind, as well as the spiritual senses, such as your connection to God, Gaia, Universal Consciousness, The Super Conscious Mind or whatever you perceive Source to be. It is through these subconscious senses that abilities such as psychic powers and intuition are acquired.

Unlike your brain and body, the subconscious mind never sleeps or never rests. It is working 24 hours per day 7 days a week, and constantly absorbing data, creating and sending out vibrational frequencies based on the information it has been given, through the conscious mind. These vibrational frequencies (energy) are then matched with harmonious vibrations in the universe, and are then manifest into the physical and become what you see in your outside physical world and perceive as reality.

Look around you and think about what you are attracting into your life right now.If you are not living the life that you desire, and are not experiencing peace, harmony, abundance, and joy in every aspect of your life, You Need New Data!

With practice, and by becoming aware of what your predominant thoughts consist of, and what you are allowing into your mind, you can then take conscious control over what is given to and stored in your subconscious mind as reality. By doing this, your subconscious mind is limited to absorbing only the consciously filtered data given to it by the conscious mind.

If your thoughts and beliefs are in alignment with your desired outcome, the vibrations emitted and broadcast as a result of the emotions experienced are sent out into the universe and can only attract like or harmonious vibrations or frequencies of the same positive vibration, and create in your physical reality those things that you desire.

By accessing the silence, the gap in between your thoughts, you bring yourself into harmony with the entire universe and the infinite power that it contains.

Bear in mind that the subconscious mind will do anything it is given to do. It will recharge the body with health, vigor, strength--make one all over--as well as alter one's attitude toward life entirely. The subconscious mind will change failure into success, despondency into joy, depression into happiness, futility into achievement.

Hypnosis is one way to reprogram your brain from bad habits or bad way of thinking. Like you are afraid to speak in front of an group of people.

Alpha waves are the connection that allows information to be transfered between subconscious and conscious. Each time you remember a dream that you had, you used alpha brain waves.

The subscious mind is the main engine behind the conscious mind. It is connect to the super consciousoness of God, or some may call it the universal cosmo mind.

Self Hypnosis is a means of letting your subconscious mind communicate with your conscious mind. We can only establish contact with our subconscious minds, when we relax and let our conscious mind take a back seat. Our subconscious mind has immense powers, and it can be mastered with daily practice. we only use about 10% of our subconscious’s total potential. So just imagine if we could put into the use rest 90% how different life could be!

there are so many different techniques to learn how to expand your mind

self hypnosis meditation dreaming Silva mind control methods have always been my favorites Huna is another awesome technique. check out Max Freedom Longs bulletins Quantum jumping is pretty cool

Try different styles to come up with your own method.

Anyone can do this, I have taught my kids, grandkids, nieces, and clients to help with any limitation they felt they had.

There's an excellent article in the New York Times about the subconscious mind, and its relation to your conscious thinking processes, here:

Who’s Minding the Mind?
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/31/health/psychology/31subl.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1

Interestingly, the term "subconscious" appears to be a popular term associated squarely with the new age movement (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subconscious). Psychology and academic circles refer to the unconscious, not the subconscious. Even the New York Times article, while it begins with the word subconscious, quickly switches to the word unconscious (presumably to satisfy the academics).

Among the interesting things that the NYT article discusses is the fact that people make decisions from the "bottom up," starting with the reptilian (the oldest, from an evolutionary standpoint) part of the brain, associated with basic emotions and instincts. The frontal cortex (which we associate with conscious thinking and reason) is often the last part of the brain to get involved. No wonder people tend to think emotionally.

In new age circles, the subconscious is essentially considered the seat of all psychic and metaphysical phenomena.

There are many methods available for exploring the subconscious, some of which may or may not work. My advice? Stick with meditation and visualization, and explore creativity.
