A question here for Faster EFT Tappers.

When you've brought to mind the memory or feelings that are bothering you and you actually start the actual tapping, do you:

  1. Try to still focus on the "feeling"

  2. Focus solely on the sensation of the actual physical tap.

  3. Or both.

I'm very interested in where the focus is with you at the point of the tapping.

Always focus on the feeling that you are trying to neutralize.

The way that all change-work methods work is that you hold a good/neutral state at the same time as you hold a bad-feeling state.

It is a property of our bodies/minds that, when this happens, we naturally release the bad-feeling state in favor of the good/neutral one.

With EFT, the good-feeling state is elicited by tapping on the body's energy meridians but you could equally use a trigger gesture/word, self-questioning...anything you like really.

Just as a sidepoint, knowing this principle, you can now invent an infinite number of change-work methods...you just need to come up with some way to elicit a good-feeling state within someone while they focus on the bad-feeling state at the same time.

For example, when I pick my nose it makes me feel relatively good.

Therefore I now proclaim the creation of my Nose-Finger Touching method.

  • Step 1 - Pick your nose with your index finger and really enjoy it
  • Step 2 - Think of your "issue" as you pick your nose
  • Step 3 - You are now "cured" of your problem - for now :)

Nose-Finger Touching shall hereby be known as NFT and I shall be writing a book about it shortly ;)

Here are the best ways that work for me:

  • First focus on emotion, amplify it and give it a name (for example: "fear of loss"). Focus on word+emotion and begin to tap. Now focus on the physical tapping sensation only. Just say the name of the emotion at each tapping point once and focus on tapping only.

  • If this doesn't seem to work, first focus on the emotion in your inner body ("Where in my body do I feel the emotion?") without naming it. Focus on feeling only for about 20 seconds (without tapping). Then say "this feeling" once at each tapping point and tap and focus on the physical tapping sensation only.

  • Sometimes the emotion can be so intense and overwhelming that it's hard to maintain focus. Then focus on feeling and tap slowly. And ask yourself: Which feels better? Does the negative emotion feel better or does the sensation of the tap on my skin feel better? And compare both sensations. Focus 2-3 seconds on emotion and then 2-3 seconds on the tapping sensation to compare both of them so you can answer the question honestly...and keep tapping.

I find it also beneficial to change speed of tapping often. So tap slowly, then a little bit faster and then in slow motion, then very fast etc. This too helps to "break the trance state" when the emotion is too overwhelming.

@releaser99- good answer man....yes i found it effective when we change the speed of tapping.one should find out what rhythm his emotional body accepts.

(24 May '13, 11:41) Zee

speed of tapping or rhythm should be more experimented i suggest.

(24 May '13, 11:45) Zee

@Zee Yes, IMO the rhythm of tapping can be important. It prevents that we use EFT as an excuse to escape from our negative emotions. By changing speed we tune more into our negative feelings. Thus we can neutralize them better. Because fully experiencing the negative first is essential when using clearing techniques. And changing rhythm can also break deep trances when we miss the forest for the trees.

This is what Robert Smith said in one of his U tube videos. He said it was hard to concentrate on Sensation and tap at one time. Im gonna play around a bit with yours and Stingrays answers.Smith says keep tapping till its sorted, your view of changing tack if it doesnt is interesting.

(25 May '13, 04:37) Monty Riviera

@Monty Riviera In my experience it doesn't really matter how you do it as long as you can internally connect the neutral tapping sensation and your negative emotion. Your brain has to make a connection between the two so it knows that it has to choose between those two. When I first started with Faster EFT I felt the emotion first and then tapped and focused on tapping only. But it didn't work. Because once I began to tap, I (unconsciously) suppressed the emotion.

(25 May '13, 07:36) releaser99

So my brain couldn't connect the two sensations and choose the neutral feeling one. I tried it the other way around but then often I was so focused on the overwhelming emotion that I couldn't notice the tapping sensation. So again my brain couldn't make the connection. So the question I mentioned helped me tremendously ("Which feels better?") to practice making the connection and learning to link the 2 states. You may wish to try it.

@Releaser99- Great points here! Thanks:)

You're very welcome @Satori. I would love to know if and how this question helped. I feel confident that it will make a big difference in people who say that (Faster) EFT doesn't work.

(25 May '13, 13:26) releaser99

"Your brain has to make the connection between the two so it knows it has to choose between the two" I think this is the crux of the matter and although both answers posted " seem" to disagree they both have this in common. Im going to practise a variation of methods. Whatever works i will use. Its proving to be a very useful tool this EFT. Robert Smiths videos have been a real eye opener!

@Releaser99- Actually in your comments "So my brain couldn't connect the two sensations and choose the neutral feeling one. I tried it the other way around but then often I was so focused on the overwhelming emotion that I couldn't notice the tapping sensation. So again my brain couldn't make the connection. So the question I mentioned helped me tremendously ("Which feels better?") to practice making the connection and learning to link the 2 states. You may wish to try it." Pure gold friend...

@Releaser99-... I had forgotten the importance of feeling both states. I had sort of been getting progressively sloppy using EFT and just been focusing on the emotion. I know the mind usually chooses the better feeling state but giving it a mental hint in the right direction like "Which feels better?". I think this will also help me. Thanks :)

@Satori " I know the mind usually chooses the better feeling state but giving it a mental hint in the right direction like "Which feels better?"." Yes, that's exactly what this question is about. And I believe that it can make a big difference, especially when you start out and don't know how and why EFT works internally. But even as an "advanced student" one can be sloppy after a while. I'm glad you found value in it. :)

Here is a video by Robert Smith about Faster Eft which I found very helpful and might have relevance to this question. Thanks.

First sit and make thine eyes single focus on a point in front of you that is not there with open eyes so that you do not fall asleep.

Second peace be still, wait and trust in God with faith. third seek the truth observe what is seen on the water that trouble you darkness and storm observe and understand the futility. once it is understand it will fall of its own each piece of the puzzle like a domino one piece after the other until you get a perfect image. Clean the cup inside out.

Third follow the light in to all truth, until the two(water and spirit) become one with out fear you can cross the last door out of the vessel and go above. this third part takes more then 40 days in some case more then 40 years.
