In the answers to lesson 17 of The Master Key System, it says:

170: What is the result of pursuing the symbol of the reality?

ANSWER: They frequently turn to ashes just as we overtake them, because the symbol is only the outward form of the spiritual activity within, therefore unless we can possess the spiritual reality, the form disappears.

Just a simple example to help me understand this.... If I want to raise my income, how can I find which symbol it is and how can I find what is the spiritual reality of it?

Thanks for you're help! :o)

Clarity for this can be found in the same lesson, paragraph 10.

Concentration does not mean mere thinking of thoughts, but the transmutation of these thoughts into practical values. The average person has no conception of the meaning of concentration. There is always the cry "to have" but never the cry "to be"; they fail to understand that they cannot have one without the other, that they must first find the "kingdom" before than can have the "things added." Momentary enthusiasm is of no value; it is only with unbounded self-confidence that the goal is reached.

All outer forms are symbols. The money itself is a symbol. The inner feeling of wealth is what is desired - required. If you do not have that inner feeling, even if you managed to have more thrust upon you, it wouldn't last long and would quickly "turn to ashes."

The classic case of that being the majority of lottery winners...they have the money...but it is short lived. They have not "worked" for it. They will tend to go out and buy status symbols and fulfill the whims they always wanted - and end up with less money after the fact. The wealthy crowd will snicker behind the back of the 'lucky' person - "they don't even know the difference between an asset and a liability!"

This is because wealthy people think, feel and act different. People are not wealthy because of the money they have, but because of who they are. It is this being that is important, not the having. The being is the spiritual reality, the having is the symbol.

To recognize the spiritual reality, you consider what the symbol means to you. After you have realized and felt the personal meaning you have for the symbol - you maintain that feeling. So in my case, money comes down to this: "It allows me to do what I want to do, when I want to do it." I hold that feeling, and if decisions concerning it come up, I normally make my decisions from that basis.

The spiritual symbols that we are all trying to create are things like: Harmony, Peace, Love, Abundance, etc. If you are trying to raise your income, you want to connect to spiritual symbols such as abundance and harmony. Meaning that you believe that the Universe can and wants to provide abundance for everyone. In this way you are manifesting your desires while maintaining harmony with the universe.
